INITIAL PLANTING, SPRING 1996

Shaded garden with an entrance from the front lawn down a set of steps which end next to a small pool and another from half way down the zigzag scented steps which bring you past cypress trees underplanted with hydrangeas and a hedge of Hydrangea aspera 'Villosa'.

How to grow plants on a slope, under a large evergreen tree, with little or no aftercare and/or watering! Ground coverage is slow. Planting is interesting and/or adventurous. Something can live perfectly well for three years then keel over, whilst the one that has sat there for three years and done nothing at all suddenly comes into its own.
